Software Engineer, Performance Engineering

We are looking for a seasoned Performance Engineer to architect, evaluate, analyze, and support the performance and scale engineering of the Big Data workloads. On this team you will be immersed in many exciting, cutting edge technologies and projects, including collaboration with developers, testers, product, field engineers, and our external partners, both software and hardware vendors.

* Work with Product Managers, Developers and Customers to understand the performance and scale requirements, and translate them into benchmarks, automation and understanding of performance characteristics * Analyze performance characteristics to identify bottlenecks in large-scale distributed systems * Develop awareness of performance improvements coming through internal development team and through Apache Hadoop community, and Identify opportunities for your team's engagement * Design and execute on projects that would result in to technical white papers, blogs, conference presentations * Provide guidance to field on competitive performance, connect with customers to understand their SLA expectations, and collaborate cross functionally to deliver the engineering work as appropriate * Collaborate with the Hadoop community, with engineers at various Big Data companies to advance the state of Hadoop performance engineering

**Qualifications:** * BS degree in Computer Science, related degree or equivalent experience (Masters preferred) * 5+ years experience with Performance and Scale engineering * 5+ years OOP with strong design and coding skills (Java preferred) * Experience with databases, data warehousing and related technologies * Understanding of hardware trends, large scale distributed systems, and strong knowledge about performance benchmarks like TPC* and other benchmarks (contributions preferred) * Experience with private/public clouds, virtualization technologies (VMWare, KVM, or similar) * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Self-motivated, innovative, and proactive. An individual who enjoys team environment as well as can make individual impact **Preferable, but not required:** * Experience with competitive benchmarking leading enterprise customers * Experience with Apache Hadoop and its related technologies * Knowledge of the core elements of file system, kernel and database internals – latency, throughput, availability, reliability etc * Active involvement in open source community
