An experienced systems administrator who can hit the ground running and help the admin team tackle a substantial list of projects. Projects examples include: maintenance of networks built on managed hardware, optimizing existing services, and ground-up solution definition for bespoke applications. - Propose a solution, including approach to testing, risks and long-term maintenance in written form, before a single line of code is written - Build software from source & package it - Work in a cross-discipline team and embrace diversity - Design HA networks & build them - Define and follow procedures - Document, document, rinse, repeat, document - Adapt rapidly to change - Extend existing standards to new technologies - Automate anything - Diagnose systematically - Find the root cause - Configure a router - Read a packet dump - Communicate with clients and non-sysadmins

- At least five years of experience administering Linux (or combination of experience and relevant education) - Solid understanding of networking and all core network services and protocols (ARP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP, TLS, UDP, etc.) - Excellent command of written and spoken English - Self-reliant transportation to physically-distributed data centers - Python/Ruby - Puppet - AWS (or other cloud service) - Apache - LDAP - MySQL/PostgreSQL - PHP - NFS - Acquia, Pantheon (or other platform as a service providers) - Inclined to document everything - Patient - Always learning - Disciplined - Flexible - Collaborative - Efficient - Willing to be on call - Able to work well during an emergency - Nice
