Head of Design

Clara is a new kind of lender that harnesses the efficiency of technology and the power of data in entirely new ways. By streamlining and customizing the lending process, we strive to give everyone greater confidence over the outcome.

As Head of Design, you will build out the Design function at Clara. You will provide design leadership, strategy and execution as we create experiences that simplify the complex process behind the most significant financial decision of a person’s life. Your work will empower our customers with a clear understanding of their own financial profile, and our product will help guide them through a successful loan application. You’ll work as part of a tight-knit, cross-functional team with Product, Engineering and Marketing.

* Shape the strategy for the Design function at Clara Build a deep understanding of the borrower needs to create superior experiences across our line of products * Shape the user experience and product direction, working directly with Clara founders and the product team * Design intuitive flows that bring delight, clarity and empowerment to a complex process * Work closely with the engineering team to convert design into reality * Codify shared elements of design and style that can be replicated throughout the organization * Lead and mentor other members of the design team

* You know how to lead: * You’ve built and led lean design teams from the ground up * You inspire people on your team – people want to follow you * You communicate your ideas and advocate for them across the organization, from executives to engineers * You’re hands on – you believe that you need to get your hands dirty in order to deeply understand the needs and shape your team accordingly * You are a great designer: * You empathize with people making complex decisions * You've designed and shipped consumer products, and have good consumer product intuitions * You have a strong understanding of the principles of user-centric design * Your designs are simple, transparent, balanced, and composed * You are proficient in modern design and prototyping software * You are not afraid of complexity, and love the challenge of breaking it down for others * Service design experience is a plus: we're not just building an app, but instead offer a broader service enabled by our technology * 5-10+ years of professional experience
