Summary
Celgene Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company, is looking to hire a lead attorney for its Inflammation and Immunology (“I&I”) franchise. The position will be located at Celgene’s headquarters in Summit, New Jersey and reports directly into the General Counsel of Celgene. The candidate will serve as a member of the I&I executive team and will provide legal perspective and advice on a wide range of strategic, tactical, and operational issues. The candidate will also be a member of the senior leadership team of Celgene’s legal department.
Responsibilities
* Identifying legal issues and advising the franchise on legal considerations that must be taken into account with regard to strategic initiatives and business endeavors. * Advising on and investigating matters relating to healthcare compliance, good manufacturing practices, and other compliance issues. * Working with Celgene’s lead patent and transactional counsel on matters relating to intellectual property, collaborations and acquisitions. * Working with Celgene’s lead counsel for the EU and APAC on international legal matters affecting the franchise. * Advising the franchise on the litigation risks of possible business decisions, providing preventive counseling with respect to the legal risks associated with business practices, and developing strategy and implementable solutions with both inside and outside counsel. * Developing, implementing and managing a strategic plan for the provision of legal services in accordance with, and in support of, business objectives; budgeting for, selecting and managing outside counsel as needed; making recommendations for adequate staffing and managing in-house franchise legal team as it grows; creating staff development plans in conjunction with HR; and recruiting, developing, and training staff in accordance with the needs of the franchise.
Ideal Candidate
**Prerequisites:** * Candidates should be admitted to practice before at least one US State Bar. * Attorneys should have at least 12 years of legal experience and at least several years of experience with a pharmaceutical company. * Candidates should have expertise in the regulation and promotion of pharmaceuticals and in healthcare compliance. * Additional expertise in other areas of law affecting pharmaceutical manufacturers (pricing and reimbursement, products liability, and antitrust) is preferred. **Skills:** * An ability to prioritize and multi-task, processing multiple transactions to satisfactory completion. * An ability to appropriately balance legal and business risks while complying with short turnaround cycles. * Attention to detail and comfort with travel. * Excellent communication skills (oral and written). * History of self-motivation, sound judgment and excellent interpersonal relations.
