We’re looking for a staff writer with experience in breaking and entertainment news and a fun but unmistakable sense of urgency to join our Los Angeles staff. The right person for this job is… A journalist who loves pop culture and thrives in an environment that requires both speed and accuracy. An individual who is comfortable with receiving feedback on both line edits and overall structural changes to stories. Someone who can multitask and is flexible enough to reprioritize duties based on breaking news. Motivated by solid news judgment and thoughtful attention to detail and possessing a willingness to raise questions or concerns in pursuit of telling the most accurate and engaging story possible.

Writing approximately 7-8 stories daily for publication on ETonline.com, on a variety of topics determined to be priorities by editors. ETonline does not enforce a quota for quantity of stories produced, but we expect writers to move at a quick pace while applying necessary judgment required for more complicated assignments. Writing headlines, selecting and cropping photos and selecting appropriate related links for those stories, both to external sources as well as previous ETonline.com coverage. Assist in the incorporation of any changes to copy as dictated by editors and the legal team. Maintain consistent brand tone and style in copy. Writers who are assigned late-night or other off-hour shifts may be responsible for an additional degree of carefully fact-checking their own work and escalating any breaking news or emergencies to editors. They may also be asked to help perform simple social media publishing tasks. All staff participate in a year-round on-call weekend rotation during which they are responsible for covering big or breaking news or major special events.
