Responsibilities
* Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff. Monitors and records vital signs, Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs. Performs blood glucose testing. Reports changes in patient's status promptly to RN. Performs phlebotomy skills on assigned unit. Performs limited sterile procedures as delegated by a RN * Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process; Performs and documents general therapeutic measures * Provides clerical support to the patient care unit through ensuring patient medical record is properly assembled, Accurately transcribing orders and enters Consults into the computer if applicable * Acts as a receptionist for the unit by directing, assisting, and communicating to patients, families, visitors, co-workers and other departmental personnel * Continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates and Maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, admission and changes labels strip with patient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRS interval * Trouble shoots telemetry equipment, Ensures monitors are functioning properly, ensure telemetry supplies are available. Accounts for telemetry transmitters, Verifies daily telemetry charges. Identifies changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern, notifying RN of these changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, runs a continuous EKG strip and notifies appropriate staff * Demonstrates commitment to the continuum of care by optimizing patient flow * Demonstrates commitment to the cost-containing goals of the patient care unit and the hospital: ordering only needed supplies, removing and delivering supplies received, entering patient charges timely, and ensuring discontinued equipment is returned promptly * Demonstrates commitment to maintain a neat, orderly, and safe environment: Maintains a neat, safe and orderly work area, keeps hallways clear of obstructions, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Education:** * High School Diploma/GED **Minimum years in field previous to employment:** * Two (2) years of experience and/or training in both nursing and secretarial support in a hospital or clinical setting
