Summary
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Flexographic Printing and experience with Mark-Andy printing presses. The press operator will be responsible for setting up and maintaining a multi-color flexographic press with in-line die cutting, slitting and roll-to-roll capabilities using water-based, UV and solvent inks. The press operator must manage all aspects of the press performance including productivity and quality in addition to preventative care and maintenance to assigned equipment.
Responsibilities
* Ensure that product is printed according to specification. * Pulls job bag & work order and verifies that stock and inks are available and correct. * Loads dies into press, installs print cylinder on shaft, and installs print cylinder in press. * Verifies that aniloxs and plate cylinders are correct. * Sets –up machine: installs aniloxs, inks, plate cylinders, sets up roll stand, & web alignment, diecut station, slitter, and delivery table. * Sets impression and registers to print. * Completes all start –up checks and obtains art approval. * Completes in- process inspections, follows work instructions and controls print quality. * Closes out job by completely and accurately filling out paper work. * Ability to mount & proof flexographic plates in register. * Cleans flexo plates, print cylinders, and dies as needed. * Washes up previous job before starting next. * Maintains pH and viscosity for all inks during the production run. * Ability to manage the schedule as assigned. * Must be able to detect defects in print when running press at full speed. * Knowledge of Job Hazard and Lockout procedure. * Perform quality checks. * Ability to adjust and monitor color on press. * Ability to use spectrodensitometer and explain readings. * Perform basic press maintenance. * Responsible for press housekeeping. * Comply with plant safety and PPE requirements. * Complete production reports and hourly management reports. * Report all food safety and quality problems to supervisor. * Associate is responsible to keep their work area clean, empty trash and sweep daily. * All other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
* Previous experience operating a flexographic press. * Previous experience with flexographic plate mounting. * Ability to read basic measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers and tape measures. * Knowledge of coating and inks. * Strong leadership and the ability to take initiative. * Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to provide hands on training * Ability to obtain a valid tow motor license and pass tow motor exam. * Ability to pass Isochromatic color vision test yearly. * Lifting from floor to waist up to 35 lbs. frequently, able to bend, squat, step up steps to press platform. * Pushing/pulling using manual pallet jack to move pallets (Av. 1000lbs, 55” high) of paperboard. * Manufacturing environment, noisy at times (hearing protection required), heated and cooled.
