Summary
We are seeking an adhesive chemist with formulation or adhesive experience. This person will provide technical knowledge and skills to support and grow the adhesives business as well as to initiate and improve formulations in order to support Company sales and manufacturing groups. The chemist will also create safety data sheets and maintain safety data sheet books.
Responsibilities
* Adheres to the requirements of the Caraustar Standards of Business Conduct Policy. * Create safety data sheets, technical data sheets, and respond to customer requests regarding compliance questions. * Maintain Safety Data Sheet books. Train with Chemist and plant personnel to understand our products, processes and capabilities * Investigate manufacturing or customer issues and recommend a corrective action.They will also develop and commercial new products and identify potential technologies pertinent to the business. * Physical testing of raw material components, or samples, and final products originating from the plant, customers or vendors. Generate reports or presentations with those results in appropriate formats and in timely manner. * Develop new formulations, improve existing formulations and assist manufacturing with process improvement. * Analyze QC data for trends and recommend changes to products. * Provides technical support to sales team, manufacturing staff, and customers * Complete all assigned projects according to desired specifications and timelines. * May give technical presentations to customers and internal/external groups. * Operates and maintains all testing equipment and conducts necessary calibrations. * Keeps lab clean and follows all safety rules or regulations.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor's degree in chemistry. * 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, prefer formulation experience with adhesives. Experience with chemical batch processing a plus. * Must be able to create safety data sheets and be knowledgeable in the area of compliance. * Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to multi-task. * Ability to handle the day-to-day technical activities of the plant. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills. * Computer literate and proficient in Word and Excel. * Some travel may be required.
