Summary
Canon U.S. Life Sciences, Inc. is currently seeking an Associate Scientist with some experience in the life sciences industry. The incumbent in this position will perform molecular and biological testing used for the development of molecular diagnostic assays and instruments. Relevant background includes knowledge of PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing, nucleic acid purification, nucleic acid quantitation, and gel electrophoresis.
Responsibilities
* Develop and optimize PCR-based molecular diagnostic assays. * Assist senior scientists in performing functional testing on novel diagnostic instrumentation. * Assist in product transfer to manufacturing. * Purify, quantify and characterize DNA. * Assist in lab management tasks, such as material inventory, ordering and equipment maintenance. * Maintain impeccable records from raw data including data books and computer generated data files, quantitative analysis of data, laboratory protocols, and summary reports. * Present data to small working groups as well as to the larger project teams. * Required to handle biological materials, infectious agents and biological wastes. Occasionally may be required to work with hazardous chemicals. * Work in a dynamic matrix environment with moderate degree of independence. Cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment and effectively communicate project status to supervisor. * Assist with special projects as needed.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor of Science Degree in biological sciences or related field. * One year experience with bench-level scientific research in academic or industry environment, preferably in the life sciences industry. * Experience with Molecular Biology areas including PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing, nucleic acid purification, nucleic acid quantitation, and gel electrophoresis. * Strong analytical abilities required for designing experiments, data analysis, and reporting. * Must be able to maintain impeccable records from raw data including lab notebooks and computer generated data files, quantitative analysis of data, laboratory protocols, and summary reports. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and the ability to function with moderate degree of independence are required.
