Summary
Our client, a global leader in the coatings industry, requires an experienced polymer chemist to design, synthesize and scale up polymers for a variety of coatings applications. The successful candidate will become a corporate resource for the development of waterborne polyesters and alkyd resins, working from a Minneapolis, MN based technology center.
Responsibilities
* Plan and lead multiple technical projects to develop water reducible polyesters and alkyds for use in the company's coatings formulations. * Help to manage the commercialization of new resin products inline with project objectives, budgets and timelines. * Design, synthesize and scale up new polyester and alkyd resins for use across multiple coatings businesses and applications. * Apply industry specific information and competitive knowledge to drive corporate technology initiatives for the development of coatings resins. * Develop and utilize intellectual property to achieve corporate objectives. * Lead staff as required, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation. * Serve as a project team member to provide technical management for other functions including product development, quality control, manufacturing etc. * Present reports and findings to Business leadership.
Ideal Candidate
* **Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry** or related science, at a minimum. * **At least eight years of industrial chemistry experience** with an emphasis in polymer/polyester synthesis and two years of relevant coatings industry experience. * Experience leading research and development projects in the chemical or coatings industries. * Demonstrated success in collaborating across functions in a corporate environment. * Previous experience supervising laboratory staff. * Demonstrable oral and written communication skills. * Ability to travel to support business objectives, up to 25% of time.
