Summary
Due to the expansion of our list, Cambridge University Press is seeking an Editor to join our Journals team to manage a list of prestigious STM research journals. The Editor will work as part of a transatlantic team based in New York, US and Cambridge, UK. New York.
Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day operations of a portfolio of research journals by being the key contact at the Press for the journals’ external editorial offices. * • Drive the growth and development of the journals by working with the journals academic editors, editorial boards, and Cambridge marketing, sales and production colleagues. * • Support the external editors, editorial boards, and editorial offices to increase the output of the journals in terms of both quality and quantity of research articles. * • Ensure peer review processes are managed efficiently and fairly * • Ensure timely publication to the required production quality * • Maintenance of systems and processes for the journals to ensure that all aspects of publishing proceed to plan and within budget. * • Produce reports on the journals performance; attend editorial board meetings and present reports; assist in the promotion of the journals by attending conferences and other meetings. * • Monitor publishing industry developments, market requirements and competing journals and act upon this information as appropriate. * • Maintain effective global communications with colleagues in the UK, Asia and Australia in marketing, sales, finance, production, book publishing and technology.
Ideal Candidate
* • 1-3 years of experience working on scientific research journals (preferably the physical sciences); knowledge of the business of research journal publishing: peer review, Open Access, subscription business models, digital content, usage data, citation analysis etc.; * • Ability to work independently as well as part of the team and excellent communication skills (verbal and written); organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills is required; * • Strong financial awareness and budgeting skills; * • Good working knowledge of digital platforms, product development, and publishing content in a digital sphere; and * • Experience of working with academic or professional scientific societies a plus.
