As a CAD Modeler for Giro Sport Design, you'll work closely with our Engineers and Designers to execute original, category specific concepts that clearly express the Giro culture through multiple platforms of design.
Your CAD ability to quickly and accurately model complex surfaces and ideas is of key importance in this position.
You are an action oriented free thinker who is inspired by art and life outside of our industry yet you love to ride and have the ability to filter these inspirations and passions through the Giro design language to produce unique, market appropriate content.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- 3D Modeling of complex organic surfaces to produce high quality 3D CAD data for new helmet and goggle product development.
- Ability to create surfaces in Rhino with light point count and easily converted for import into Solidworks for Engineering team to work on.
- Ability to translate Designer’s intent from sketches and 3D hand mockups, and various inputs from Design and Engineering teams.
- Work in fast paced environment to produce multiple iterations and rapid prototypes.
- Produce high quality 3D data with consideration to fit, quality, and testing requirements.
- Tooling, manufacturing, & assembly are other inputs that must be considered and worked through when making killer products.
- EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Ideal candidate will have 3+ years of demonstrated proficiency of Parametric or N.U.R.B.S. surfacing software such as Rhino, Pro/Engineer, or Alias to produce highly organic shapes. Solidworks CAD skills highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a design field (Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering) is a plus but not mandatory.
- Working experience in creating tool ready class-A surfaces and solid models with tight tolerances.
- A portfolio of work that clearly demonstrates creativity, originality, problem solving and process.
- Knowledge of plastics engineering and materials for injection molded parts.
- Strong understanding of the Action Sports Industry, the Giro customer and our competitors.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong time management skills with good planning and judgment to accomplishing goals within challenging deadlines.
- Helmet and goggle knowledge is a plus.
- Understanding of manufacturing principles and processes.
