Job Description - A great opportunity to work in the Commercial Airplanes Design Center, as a Structural Design Engineer. This job description supports open positions for several existing and developmental airplane programs including: the New 777x , the 787, the 737 MAX, as well as ongoing revisions to the 737, 747, 767, and 777. Design areas include Wing, Fuselage, Empennage, Doors, Propulsion (structure), and Landing Gear. - Develops, integrates and documents structural requirements to establish the system design. - Develops, maintains and modifies structural and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. - Performs, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. - Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. - Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort. - Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. - Works under general direction.
Ideal Candidate
Qualifications - Successful candidate will possess the following education, experience and competencies: - At least 3 years of experience with Structural Design. - Minimum of 3 years of experience with CAD, preferably CATIA. - Experienced with structural design principles and practices from requirements generation to production and product support. - Complete knowledge of aircraft structure, materials strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions, and processes. - Exercises engineering judgment in developing appropriate decisions considering decision criteria, implications, and possible consequences, to ensure product design integrity. - Recognizes a variety of issues, problems, or opportunities and determines whether action is needed - Considers customers and their needs when performing and/or working with others on routine tasks. Considers how day-to-day actions or plans affect customers and responds quickly to help others address customer needs and resolve problems. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Treats changes and new situations as opportunities for learning or growth, and focuses on the beneficial aspects of change. Readily tries new approaches appropriate for new or changed situations. - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. - Mechanical, Aeronautical / Aerospace, and Civil engineering degrees are highly preferred. - This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.
