Summary
BNY Mellon Innovation Center Silicon Valley (ICSV) is seeks a Data Architect to join our rapidly growing team. The ICSV is a startup within an enterprise, focused on applied research that can be quickly brought to market as production services and new financial services products. At ICSV, our teams of data scientists work on treasure grove of fascinating financial data that is so unique to BNY Mellon, to potentially solve some of the most pressing financial challenges of modern economy like illiquid bonds. We are also working on rebuilding data platform for some of the highest priority corporate initiatives using Silicon Valley practices and open source and big data technologies. The data architect would play a crucial role in ensuring success of many of our Data Science and engineering initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Take ownership of data models of all data science projects in ICSV * Create and enhance Relational, OLAP and NoSQL data models * Guide data modeling efforts on storage technologies like HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB, as well as DWH technologies like teradata, vertica * Research and innovate using emerging open source storage technology stack like opentsdb, rocksdb, druid etc. * Master the enterprise data vocabulary * Open Source contributions...you may be altering code maintained as an open source project
Ideal Candidate
* BS, MS in Computer Science or equivalent along with hands-on experience in dealing with large data sets and distributed computing in data warehousing and business intelligence systems using hadoop * Foundation in systems development: the data architect should understand the system development life cycle; software project management approaches; and requirements, design, and test techniques * Depth in data modeling and database design across various disciplines like relational data modeling, OLAP data modeling (ex:- star schema) and NoSQL data modeling (ex:- hbase, cassandra etc) * Breadth in established and emerging data technologies. In addition to depth in established data management and reporting technologies, the data architect is either experienced or conversant in emerging tools like columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data. * Ability to conceive and portray the big data picture: When the data architect initiates, evaluates, and influences projects he or she does so from the perspective of the entire organization. The data architect maps the systems and interfaces used to manage data, sets standards for data management, analyzes current state and conceives desired future state, and conceives projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals. * Ability to astutely operate in the organization: Well respected and influential, Able to emphasize methodology, modeling, and governance, Technologically and politically neutral, Articulate, persuasive, and a good salesperson, and Enthusiastic
