Summary
Bloomberg is looking for a talented front-end web developer with a passion for journalism to work with our team to tell stories through code. This role requires the ability to creatively approach methods of interaction, visualization, and experience design with an eye for graphic detail. This developer will collaborate with all of our newsroom teams, from digital video and data visualization to reporters and editors, to tell amazing stories for millions of users.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working with extremely tight deadlines or on projects that require months of planning and strategy. A week's work might include challenges as straightforward as a quick front-end customization to make a story really pop, or the unveiling of a truly bespoke storytelling experience designed to make 12,000 words really sing.
Ideal Candidate
* A passion for digital storytelling on the web * Experience designing and building web applications for a large audience * The ability to work and thrive in a team-oriented environment * A proven history of solving problems with short cycle times * Front-end prototyping experience using HTML5, CSS3, DOM-scripting, JavaScript, JQuery & Canvas * 5+ years recent/relevant design experience with information rich media * A passion for web UI and interaction, including information design/visualization and usability * The ability to work with diverse data formats (JSON, XML, scraped-web pages, Shapefiles) and database systems (MySQL, Postgres, CouchDB, Oracle, folders full of CSV files) * Respect for web standards, best practices, and accessibility and usability guidelines * Expertise in integrating video, audio, and emerging technology into the end user experience * A talent for and an interest in visual and UX design
