Infrastructure Platform Engineer (Chef) Job

Bloomberg's Infrastructure Platform group in R&D delivers services which support the fast-paced Bloomberg environment. This includes key infrastructure capabilities used across all of Bloomberg's products and services. As a Infrastructure Platform Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for the design, maintenance and administration of the system and services built to automate our compute environment. Our enterprise uses Chef for this function and we are deploying Chef across all of Bloomberg's unique large-scale systems. Technical Skills: * You have recent experience designing reusable infrastructure using Chef best practices. * You have experience with functional and object-oriented programming best practices & design patterns. * You have a proven track-record of building and designing reliable, scalable service-oriented web applications/services. * You have worked on and understand distributed systems and large scale engineering challenges. Responsibilities: * You will act as a local expert in distributed systems and configuration management best practices. * You will build, design and maintain the platform automation infrastructure using Chef. * You are able to develop and evangelize sound automation practices enterprise-wide for thousands of engineers. * You will maintain documentation, training and SLAs for globally managed infrastructure.

* You have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience with Ruby and/or Chef. * You are a fast learner, capable and willing to use the right tools to get the job done. * You have previous experience implementing a new, large-scale configuration management & automation infrastructure. * You have significant experience with configuration management in a mission critical production environment.
