Responsibilities
- The purpose of this position is to assist in the creation and development of concepts, designs, and specifications that optimize the functions, value and appearance of Bissell products, both new and current. - This includes overall form/aesthetics, human factors, communications graphics, colors and textures. - The Industrial Designer I handles conceptualization and development of products having an average level of difficulty and complexity under the supervision of the Director of Consumer Design, or Lead Designer. - The Industrial Designer I is also responsible for determining appropriate materials, construction, mechanisms, shapes, color, surface finish, and manufacturing processes in cooperation with other business functions involved with the new product development process. POSITION PROFILE (Major duties, accountabilities, and responsibilities) - Industrial Design implementation per project as assigned under the supervision of the Director of Consumer Design or Lead Designer in collaboration with entire project development team and company product strategy. - Creates documentation based on Global Product Development Process (GPD) deliverables to convey concepts and designs to management and project team members, stays current with documentation/ presentation technologies. - Works effectively with outside industrial design, engineering, and model making consultant/ firms as requested on project basis. - Works on special projects relating to I.D function and design strategy development and implementation. - Develop and maintains team based interpersonal skills, customer/ consumer focus internally and externally, as well as practicing EVA principles. - Support, Promote, and Practice GPD, ensuring all aspects of GPD are followed. - Responsible as a support team member (or core team member as required) to provide Industrial Design leadership on all assigned PDP projects. - May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
* Degree minimum: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design * Specific concentration: A minimum of 2 years practical work experience in Industrial Design designing products. Experience bringing innovation to product development projects. * Experience level: Highly creative individual with strong visualization design skills PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: (i.e. MBA, certifications, etc.) * Preferred experience level: Ability to influence cross-functional creative and technical teams to improve the outcome of design * Intermediate knowledge of BISSELL design tools (Adobe Design Suite, Rhino, KeyShot, Microsoft office) SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR SKILLS REQUIRED: - This position requires the ability to manage the flow of data, perform analysis, generate summary reports and communicate by voice or data while being connected in the office, at home or while travelling by laptop or mobile device regularly without regard to time zone or day of the week.
