Director, Commercial IT Architect

Biogen is embarking on a global commercial roadmap focused on CRM, Digital Technology, Business Intelligence / MDM, and Collaboration. The program will help us revolutionize the way we interact with our customers (Patients, HCPs, HCOs, Payers etc.) by becoming a more customer focused company. After years of growing organically, we have the opportunity to re-architect our entire IT landscape and need to hire a seasoned architect to lead the charge.

* The Commercial IT Architect will be responsible for defining the IT strategy to support business development within Biogen. She/he will translate business strategy and long term capability requirements into a single strategic view that drives organizational, process, and technology changes in alignment with Biogen’s capabilities. Act as an advocate for the client, as the ultimate authority on the solution designed to address client business problems. Provide direction and oversight for design activities. Sets direction for Annual Operating Plan Technology roadmap and ensures projects are in alignment with long term business and technology direction. * The Commercial IT Architect will influence business and technology strategy by understanding the business needs and industry trends driving Biogen end to end capability across the Commercial organization. * The Commercial IT Architect should possess broad IT background and should demonstrate expertize in discussing and demonstrating the important aspects of a common platform and integration of commercial systems, where the backbone will be the Force.com platform. * With a strong blend of technical and business skills, the Architect should use a consultative approach to understand business and technical requirements and to help the Commercial IT group develop IT strategy and platform selections. * The role will focus on exploring and enabling new capabilities, innovation, standardization and integration of various systems across our Commercial landscape, using a combination of commercially available EAI software or custom development where needed, with a strong emphasis on integrating behind the firewall applications and with the Force.com platform. * We are looking for someone that could integrate force.com and other platforms that may be needed to fulfill the Commercial IT landscape into the broader solution set used at Biogen (e.g. Informatica, Extact Target, Oracle Data Warehouse, Oracle Finance, etc.). * This person must have both ‘visioning’ vs. ‘implementation’ experience and must understand our business strategy and define an IT systems architecture to support that strategy. Will also be responsible for detecting critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement. * The person will be responsible for identifying and communicating organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support solution architectures, design and respective implementation.

* Expert understanding of foundational architectural concepts (design, business technology strategy, quality management, human dynamics, and IT environment). * Significant experience engaging with CXO’s and regular working interactions with CIO’s and Business stakeholders. * Vertical industry experience in one or more domains Proven leadership experience in providing innovative technical roadmaps. * Must take a practical, pragmatic, results oriented approach to architecture planning. * Advanced application architecture design experience and prior exposure to multiple SDLC’s. * Prior exposure to distributed application performance engineering, cloud computing, social media programs, mobile application development, database design concepts, middleware concepts, user interface development, and information security engineering. * 15 years relevant experience in IT, systems/platform architecture within a life sciences company or consulting firm supporting the healthcare industry 8+ years of experience in working on platform architecture on CRM / Sales Force / Cloud based architecture * Experience with commonly used integration technologies and platforms such as ETL/Informatica / Fusion Middleware/EAI/EDI, data virtualization, EDI; Architectural and development experience of Web Services. * A good understanding of the architectural principals of web based platforms including SaaS / PaaS, multi-tenancy, multi-tiered infrastructure and application servers. * Understanding of all cloud offerings in the market and ability to discuss cloud architectures along with basic understanding of mobile platforms. * A good understanding of Information/Application security on premise and on-cloud is essential * A good understanding of enterprise application integration, including SOA, ESB, EAI, ETL environments and an understanding of integration considerations such as process orchestration, customer data integration and Master data management. * Excellent strategic thinking, problem solving and analytical capabilities with ability to synthesize large amounts of commercial business information and logically structure them into IT elements that build practical solutions * Strong analytical skills Good communication skills * Strong cross-functional coordination skills and understanding of enterprise architecture, governance; any certification on enterprise architecture (Zachman, TOGAF, etc.) methodologies will be preferred. * Develop, manage and communicate current state and future state architectural models, keeping them aligned to changing business needs and relevant for active technology portfolio management. * Ex-Big 5 consulting experience valued **Education** * Undergraduate or graduate degree with 10+ years relevant experience.
