Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the oversight of general accounting functions, management reports, budget process, and budget vs. actual financials. The Senior Accountant must have strong knowledge of and comply with legal regulations, including tax, payroll, and audit rules; and be prepared to take responsibility for the preparation, planning, and managing the budget process and production. The person in this position will interact with individuals at all levels, therefore must have effective communication skills and be able to work under pressure. The Senior Accountant must be a self-motivator, a leader in the department, and take initiative when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform overall financial accounting functions, including: financial reporting, audit support, financial analyses, and other projects as assigned
  • Create and enter journal entries, including gathering, analyzing, and preparing supporting documentations during month-end close and throughout the year, as necessary
  • Assist CFO with preparing and analyzing financial statements for all areas: company as a whole, program/department, and awards
  • Ensure account reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of GL accounts
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with approved policies and procedures
  • Assist in ensuring all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures
  • Suggest and implement process improvements
  • Manage annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CFO
  • Create monthly manager financial reports Other general accounting and analyst responsibilities, as needed
Ideal Candidate
  • BS or BA in Accounting / Finance or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc.)
  • Experience in working with Financial Edge, a plus
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting, a plus
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to own and manage projects and meet deadlines
  • Team player, organized and efficient
  • Quick learner, takes initiative, self-starter, enjoys problem solving.
Compensation and Working Conditions
Reports to Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
