Systems Developer

Bell Nursery is the largest wholesale nursery grower in the mid-Atlantic, producing and shipping approximately 100 million plants each year.

Description:

This position is part of a team responsible for back office design, maintenance, and support of the company’s various inventory, replenishment, reporting, and distribution systems. The developer will work closely with other members of the systems/IT team on various maintenance, continuous improvement, and training projects. The primary development environment is MS SQL, but there will be peripheral involvement in data exchange, logistics, and mobile device applications.

Essential Functions:

• Work with minimal supervision to address the business and data needs of the company
• Develop new and/or improve existing systems and workflow
• Analyze data, report results
• Iterative development of replenishment parameters based on sales history and planned offerings
• Training and support activity in formal classroom settings, ad-hoc screen sharing sessions, and over the phone to resolve user issues

Requirements:

• Associate degree in Computer Science, Information systems, or related field
• Proficiency with MS SQL – able to create and/or query databases, tables, and stored procedures
• Proficiency with a high level programming language (eg Visual Basic)
• Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting, analysis, and problem solving.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others who may not be at the same technical level.
• Deep experience with MS Office suite, especially Excel and Access.
• Must be able to document processes and software.
• In depth expertise with computers and basic networking

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other technical field
• MS .NET proficiency
• 3 years of professional experience in a technical field
• Inventory and/or warehousing experience
• Experience with PowerShell scripting
• Experience with code and report automation
• Share Point experience
