Summary
As a member of Mechanical Engineering team, the Materials Engineer will be responsible for researching, defining, and developing materials solutions across a wide array of consumer products. This position is responsible for designing material solutions for Belkin products while working closely with Engineers, Industrial Designers, Product Managers, Program Managers, and vendors to ensure product development objectives and schedules are met.
Responsibilities
* Define new materials requirements. * Provide expertise and guidance to the engineering staff as it relates to plastic materials selection for injection and compression-molded products, as well as materials testing and analysis. * Provide expertise and guidance to the engineering staff as it relates to adhesive development and selection for use in adhering a variety of transparent materials to low surface energy substrates. * Provide expertise and guidance to the engineering staff as it relates to protective display glass for consumer electronic devices. * Conduct hands-on laboratory testing and failure analysis with emphasis on fracture and fatigue failures. * Perform prototype process trials, materials analysis and properties characterization * Fulfill responsibilities under ISO 9001 and 14001; understand and fully support IS0 system. * Fulfill responsibilities under OHSAS 18001, understand and fully support OHSAS 18001 system.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelors degree in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field * 4-6 years of related work experience in materials engineering related to new product development * Familiarity with Instron, Hardness testing, goniometer measurements, spectrophotometer testing, etc * Strong knowledge of a variety of manufacturing processes. Glass manufacturing processes (tempering, ion-exchange, heat forming, bending, etc) a plus. * Personality and drive to execute in a fast-paced environment that operates under tight timelines and a fluid product roadmap * Effective written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be capable of interacting with and conveying concepts within all level of the organization * Multi-country joint development experience is highly desired. In particular working with China-based manufacturing and onsite experience a plus. * Must be able to obtain a Chinese Visa.
