Summary
The certified occupational therapist assistant (COTA) will assist in planning and ongoing assessment as well as provide treatment according to the occupational therapist's treatment plan of patients who have been evaluated by the occupational therapist. The following is a summary of major essential functions of the COTA. Other duties may be performed, as permitted by Texas law and regulations of governing entities. Specific functions may, from time to time, change.
Responsibilities
* Provide occupational therapy treatment as designed in the treatment plan of the Occupational Therapist. * Communicate regularly with the occupational therapist regarding the client's progress and any needed changes inthe treatment plan. * Complete all documentation that is required for each client in a timely manner. * Assure that all documentation is co-signed by the supervising occupational therapist. * Communicate to physicians, appropriate members of staff, client and family members regarding client needs andprogress, either by documentation or, if necessary, by direct contact. * Educate/train, schedule and supervise appropriate tasks that have been delegated to the techs. * Supply complete and accurate billing information to the appropriate staff member in a timely manner. * Participate in and attend conferences and clinical staff meetings as scheduled. * Assist with clinical education of any COTA students in the clinic. * Observe client confidentiality and follow HIPPA guidelines. * Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment. * Request orders of needed supplies and equipment in a timely manner to avoid emergency ordering. * Instruct clients and/or family members in the use of therapeutic activities. * Maintain the well-being and safety of the client during treatment. * Monitor equipment to be sure it is safe before using it with the client. * Keep informed of the changes and innovations in the field of occupational therapy through professional contacts,literature and workshops. * Continually pursue professional growth and act as a resource for expertise in the occupational therapy field. * Assume personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education. * Provide education related to occupational therapy to staff and the general public upon request. * Either attend or actively obtain an excused absence and arrange for a make up for, all mandatory meetings andin-services. * Suggest and develop new client programs and ideas for treatment as appropriate. * Demonstrate positive interpersonal communication skills while maintaining standards of professional ethics. * Perform other duties as delegated, required, or requested.
Ideal Candidate
* Meets the requirements for certification as an occupational therapy assistant established by the AmericanOccupational Therapy Association; or * Has appropriate experience as an occupational therapy assistant, and has a current license to practice in theState of Texas as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. * Must be competent to treat pediatrics and adolescents. * Must be CPR certified for all ages. * Must be proficient with the computer. * Capability to lift, guard, transfer and maneuver patients of all sizes ?and weights, utilizing assistance or specialequipment as needed on a ?reoccurring basis and in a safe manner. * Manual dexterity and visual acuity to safely apply all necessary ?modalities and operation of equipment * Must be able to follow written procedures and verbal directions.
