Summary
This is an exciting mid-career position, with outstanding longer term career opportunity, for a mechanical engineer (or similar discipline) with a high energy level that likes the idea of being the go to person for control valve related issues across Bechtel Infrastructure and Power Corporation (BIPC). The Senior Control Valve Specialist will have the opportunity to represent BIPC in industry standards and trade groups, work with the various nuclear, fossil and solar power projects on control valve application and system design issues, develop and maintain internal control valve specifications and application guides, develop and present technical training to the BIPC Control Systems and mechanical engineers across the company, assist in resolving control valve issues during start-up and commissioning of new power plants, and work on warranty issues determining root causes and corrective actions. The design consulting services provided by the Senior Control Valve Specialist include working on new valve applications with OEMs and projects to develop the best control valve solution for our world class clients. The ideal candidate would probably come from an OEM that manufacturers control valves for high pressure and temperature severe service applications. The successful candidate will be well rounded technically, socially and business-wise. He / she will need to have excellent communication and relationship development skills to deliver the appropriate level of support across a wide spectrum of clients internal and external. **High Level Technical Summary** * Plans and conducts independent work within a large engineering organization requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaption of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to control valves. * Devises new approaches to solving problems for primarily fossil, nuclear and solar power projects. * Provides direction and oversight on control valve selection and application working on power plant projects.
Responsibilities
**Typical Range of Duties** * Preparing and/or reviewing control valve specifications from data provided by projects * Evaluating bids from various valve manufacturers * Troubleshooting control valve applications during plant start-up, commissioning and warranty * Independently verifying valve, actuator and desuperheater sizing calculations * Reviewing P&IDs * Reviewing piping isometrics for proper valve installation * Reviewing control valve vendor documentation * Resolving control valve operational problems * Walkdown of site conditions (This job may involve walking several miles over rough terrain in primitive jobsite conditions) * Preparing and maintaining design application guides and specifications * Developing and presenting control valve in-house training courses * Participation in a national or international control valve standards committee
Ideal Candidate
**Technical Knowledge Requirements** Candidate must be able to demonstrate technical proficiency in the design and application of control valves, desuperheaters, actuators and control instrumentation for fossil, nuclear and solar power plant applications including the following: * Main and startup feedwater control valves * Pump minimum flow recirculation control valves * HP, IP and LP turbine bypass control valves * Aux steam desuperheaters * Feedwater heater cascade and emergency drain valves * Hydraulically, pneumatic and electromechanically operated valves for power plant applications **Basic Qualifications** * B.S. degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Nuclear or related engineering field * Candidate must have 10 years of recent control valve design and application engineering experience (preferably with a control valve manufacturer) * Candidate must have in-depth knowledge of the latest national and international codes and standards relating to control valves and power plant systems (e.g. ASME, ISA, IEC, JIS,DIN, AFNOR) * Candidates responding to this posting must currently possess the eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship. * Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. * Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. **Preferred Qualifications** * Current Professional Engineering License. * Ideal candidate would have recent experience working as a control valve design, development or application engineer with a major control valve manufacturer and a professional interest of pursuing a career as a control valve consultant.
