Summary
We're looking for a Technical Service Engineer who will use his or her technical skills to promote industry leading innovations to our customers. Technical Service Engineer (1602675) As a Technical Service Engineer, you will serve as the North American Technical reference for Biopolymers. You will participate in all technical meetings, take the lead on establishing recommended processing guides, investigate customer inquiries and complaints, attend all field trials and material evaluations, and support our key customers in developing process improvements. You will coordinate the local manufacturing of product(s) at local toll compounders to ensure global alignment, and will also be involved in standards committees that influence the direction of the biopolymers business (ASTM). This role supports market and application development activities of BASF’s biodegradable plastics business unit by working directly with the business team and customers. You will work closely with another technical colleague in Europe, addressing regional and global testing of new grades, identifying root causes of material quality complaints, and developing solutions to improve all aspects of product use.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical service for all customers in North America * Cover field testing of new and existing grades * Contribute to market communications (trade shows, articles, websites, videos etc.) with technical input * Interact closely with all interfaces of the business, i.e. Supply Chain, Customer Service, Manufacturing, and Strategic Marketing, both regionally and globally * Lead investigations to determine the root cause of processing or product quality complaints * Gather market intelligence as it relates to key account markets, applications, formulations and pricing * Coordinate local production to align with Global specifications
Ideal Candidate
* BS/BA with 7+ years –OR– MS/MBA with 5+ years –OR– PhD with 2+ years of experience in Engineering or Plastics Technology * Previous experience in technical service or manufacturing roles focused around blown film, cast film, extrusion coating and/or molding of plastics * Comfortable in front of customers and able to confidently present BASF technology, manufacturing, quality control and innovation * Experience interfacing with multiple facets of an organizational community to collaborate on best practices and new product launches
