Responsibilities
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is for a project engineer that has a strong role in supporting the day to day operation of the Greenville site for electrical and instrumentation issues. This position provides technical support needed to execute the required production plan. This position requires strong leadership in the area of safe plant operation and adherence to BASF Process Safety rules and policies. This position provides technical and safety leadership to the operations team. STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE: This position plays an important role in optimizing fixed and variable unit costs, and works with other support groups like Maintenance and process engineers to leverage site resources as efficiently as possible. This position is instrumental in leading troubleshooting efforts with site electrical and instrumentation issues when problems arise. This position is a solution and innovation provider. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: - Generate & complete multiple MOC's Support multiple projects simultaneously from conceptual planning through commissioning. - Technical Support and troubleshooting expertise to maintenance and operations for plant problems related to electrical and instrumentation issues. - Technical and leadership in root cause analysis for production, site utilities and electrical incidents. - Participate in Greenville Reactor safety requirements and SIS reliability integrity. Interface with Process Safety Center of Excellence as required for PHA’s or best practice safety questions. - Participate in site compliance reviews with new or existing BASF Safety Concepts published on ProSaDocs, Coatings and Resin Safety Concepts. - Primary resource in Greenville site PSM/BPS audits concerning site Safety Concepts, PHA’s, Safety Instrumented Systems, Management of Change, and PSV’s (if applicable).Participate in the Instrument & Control, Electrical, Process Control, and Project management Centers of Excellence informational meetings as required for further expertise on optimization solutions. - Manage production debottlenecking projects/lead debottlenecking efforts related to electrical, instrumentation and automation. - Review and update site Maintenance Engineering Practice (MEP) documents, SOP’s, JTA’s. - Assist the Maintenance Scheduler in the coordination, planning, and execution of shutdown work including maintenance and capital activities. - Maintain focus on safety in the development of project concept and during execution. - Support Process Safety programs through participation in compliance audits, Capital Project Reviews, Regulatory PHAs (Revalidations, Clean-Sheets) and other hazard / risk assessment activities. - Maintain the sites electrical one line diagram, electrical model in SKM and the sites electrical area classification drawing. - Utilize Management of Change to assure timely communication and training of process related changes to affected personnel. - Participate / lead in process safety related incident investigations and complete assigned action items in a timely manner.
Ideal Candidate
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 3+ years' experience in chemical manufacturing facility. - Electrical and Instrumentation knowledge required - Command of EHS procedures/standards - Root cause analysis leadership - Project management including process I/E design, cost estimating, safety reviews, construction management & start-up / commission. - Other certifications/degrees desirable. PRIOR PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS: - Led a DCS upgrade project - Assisted in the review/update of site engineering & maintenance standards - Participated in review and development of site safety standards based on corporate requirements - Worked with Corporate Engineering and contract engineering firms. - Performed as lead Electrical or Instrument engineer for major project > $1M. PAST WORK EXPERIENCE: - Project Management - Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineer - Process/Instrument Engineer - Operations Engineer
