Summary
Responsible for the creation and deployment of business data standards including the design and implementation of data governance procedures in support of Bank of the West’s risk, financial and profitability management, as well as regulatory reporting processes. Accountable for evaluation of data flow and driving efficiencies in the data management process. Oversees governance and policies, data standardization, establishing consistent data definitions, and monitoring/auditing the overall enterprise data quality. Work closely with business and technology units so that the data management requirements are appropriately implemented within individual businesses in a consistent manner.
Responsibilities
* Provide strong leadership and direction in Data Governance and Data Quality improvement initiatives. * Define and execute appropriate strategies to meet the Bank’s global data requirements and communicate these to senior management and business units. * Establish guidelines and ensure Data Governance and Quality standards are fully leveraged by business units. * Work with the business owners to document, implement and maintain the metadata and business rules for the bank’s data. * Manage the data within the bank and ensure adherence to consistent definitions, business naming standards, development of standard calculations, security requirements, etc. * Develop and enforce methods and validation mechanisms for ensuring data quality and accuracy through the warehouse. * Monitor the quality of data within the bank’s systems. * Entrusted with improving, and maintaining a high level of, data quality. * Develop metrics and reporting requirements for ongoing monitoring of the bank’s data. * Document, prioritize and update data quality related issues; work closely with business and technology representatives to have them resolved. * Assist the technology teams in the identification of data not found within the bank’s primary systems. * Handle data protection compliance
Ideal Candidate
* Required Education or Equivalent Experience * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience * 7 years or more of experience in a data management role in the financial services industry. * 5 years or more of experience in data management disciplines and applications support. * Strong knowledge of business data within a banking organization. * Prior experience in the financial industry is highly desirable. * Knowledge of key database concepts, data models, relationships between different types of data, etc. * Solid understanding of theories, principles, processes, practices, and tools, including data quality, data modeling. * Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques. * Demonstrated leadership skills that reflect the ability to serve as liaison for the data developers * Action oriented change agent mentality with a strong drive for results. * Excellent communication skills * Ability to work with people across multiple work-streams. * Must be able to work independently and proactively to take initiative to problem solve quickly. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with thoroughness and attention to detail is desired.
