Front End Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer, you will be working with subject matter experts, interaction designers and software engineers to create platforms and tools to advance life sciences fields, and ultimately support the design-build-test-learn cycle of biological design. You will be initially working on Genetic Constructor, a cloud toolkit for designing and manufacturing living things. The successful candidate will be a software developer with several years of experience in web application development, looking for opportunities to learn new technologies and interested in biology.

• Work with the research scientists to prioritize requirements for the software
• Work with user experience designers and subject matter experts to design the tools
• Collaboratively establish and implement the development plan
• Create and communicate technical designs to meet specifications
• Prototype and implement the required functionality
• Implement unit and integration tests
• Provide code documentation and other input to technical documents
• Participate in architecture and code reviews to eliminate implementation problems early in the development cycle
• Write and speak publicly about the tools we are developing

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum of 5 years of JavaScript experience
• Experience building single page web applications
• Experience in Agile Development environments
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Flexibility and ability to respond quickly to multiple priorities and under changing conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with React, Angular or other major frameworks
• Experience with ES6/modern JavaScript
• Experience working in collaboration with designers to create outstanding user experiences
