Summary
Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Research Scientist-Innovation to be located in Lancaster, PA. As a member of the Innovation core process team within our technology group, the Research Scientist-Innovation will serve our global Architectural Building Products (ABP) business. Under the direction of the Coatings Innovation Senior Manager, the primary responsibility of the Research Scientist-Innovation will be creating innovative ideas in coating, lamination, or novel materials, and turn the ideas into the solutions for global business, potential new product development, productivity improvement, and internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
- Designing, planning, and executing the formulations, experiments, and processes - Analyzing the data, recommending corrective solutions, and reporting the results - Guiding the activities of others to develop technical solutions, determining the interaction among substrate, coating, or lamination, and acting as an internal technical consultant for the needs of our global business - Proactively interacting and collaborating with the ABP team, manufacturing plants, and the business, as necessary, for the duty of the responsibilities - Providing coaching on knowledge or technical issues to both peers and associate investigators - Developing intellectual property for key innovations - Participating in pertinent technical conferences, identifying opportunities, and sharing key learning with the global ABP organization as required by business needs
Ideal Candidate
**Required Qualifications for the Research Scientist:** - Master's degree in Coating Science, Chemistry, Colloidal Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering - 5+ years of applicable work experience - Experience in coating formulation and coating applications - Experience in being a leader and a self-starter, and having the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously - Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment **Desired Qualifications for the Research Scientist:** - PhD in related field - Knowledge or prior experience in metal, wood coating, adhesives, and lamination
