Summary

Apex Systems, the nation’s second largest IT staffing and technology services firm, has an immediate opening for a Sr. Network Engineer to sit on-site in Arlington, VA. The network engineer is responsible for the design and development of voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, and customers to provide technical leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices.
  • Plans network layouts and configures systems to user environments.
  • Analyzes network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements.
  • Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.
  • May provide technical support and troubleshooting to users.
  • May perform network administration duties.
  • May provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced network personnel.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
Ideal Candidate

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • Certifications: DOD 8570.1-M IAT-II, ITIL V3 Foundation Unique/Additional Requirements
  • Desired Skills: Netcool and Tivoli Monitoring skills Remedy experience

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of directly related experience in network analysis and administration.
  • Monitor, maintain and administer the health of the corporate wide network infrastructure
  • Maintain and administer network infrastructure standards, documentation and fault tolerance
  • Monitoring, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco, Juniper, and Nortel devices (AS5300,CS2100, VOIP, Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, etc.)
  • Monitor and troubleshooting Call Center System (ACD)
  • Proficient in administering VoIP
  • Switching protocols Spanning Tree, VTP, port grouping
  • Layer networking (MPLS, etc)
  • Follow ITIL based process and procedures and escalate for technical assistance
  • Write shell scripts to facilitate automated tasks
  • Communicate Transport Services architecture and integration plans to internal (other IPTs) and external (Client's IPTs) customers in a clear manner.
