Senior Data Scientist

AOL Lifestream is a web-based application that enables users to keep track of all their comments on social networking sites. Integrated with AIM Express, AIM 7, and AIM for Mac, users can publish their statuses, reply to comments on networking sites from their Lifestream tab, and more. AOL Lifestream is a product of AOL.

Applies expertise in statistics, machine learning, data mining and software engineering to analyze and model very large data sets. Builds solutions to challenging data problems at large scale, including areas like real-time bidding, yield optimization, path prediction, geo-location and probabilistic device linking.

Performs all data science lifecycle activities, including data cleansing, ETL, feature engineering, model development and production deployment. Works with product and business colleagues to understand data and creatively collaborate on feature engineering. Prototypes models and also writes and deploys production-level software.

- M.S. or Ph.D. degree required in a quantitative discipline - 1+ years of academic and/or industry work building machine learning or statistical models on data sizes greater than 100 million rows - familiar with Unix command-line tools for processing data - familiar with data cleansing and ETL processing - Passionate about combining academic research and empirical research to solve challenging data problems - Proven ability to take ideas from research to production is a strong plus - Self-starter and entrepreneurial ability. Data Science requires a lot of false starts and constant testing before things begin to work. Must be willing to tolerate failures. - Programming skills in Java, Scala or Python - Experience with data from Ad Tech, Online Media or E-Commerce a strong plus - Experience with Map/Reduce or other Big Data processing frameworks, such as Apache Spark, a strong plus - Strong problem solving skills - Self-driven but able to collaborate in teams - Good communication skills
