Answers in Genesis is an apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry, dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively. We focus particularly on providing answers to questions surrounding the book of Genesis, as it is the most-attacked book of the Bible.
Summary
The editor holds a key position to help the publisher and editor in chief execute the ministry’s core message to the world-at-large through Answers magazine, the subscription-based and advertiser-supported periodical of Answers in Genesis-USA. The editor will work with the VP of Media/publisher, editor in chief, department editors, writers, copy editors, design staff, and photo researchers. Together they will execute and oversee the editorial processes including proposals, research, writing, and editing to ensure publication quality and accuracy consistent with Answers in Genesis standards.
Responsibilities
* Write copy * Research and write articles about ministries and people active in creation evangelism, especially for the Speak Up department * Help write various minor copy, including captions, headlines, sidebars, biographies, and article descriptions. * Research and write feature and department articles for the magazine and online exclusives. * Edit feature and department content, as needed, to meet all associated deadlines * Work with the editor in chief and editorial team to plan future department articles. * Participate in planning and brainstorming meetings. * Secure authors for Answers departments, as needed. * Maintain and replenish a stockpile of future department articles, especially Speak Up. * Compose and send out department assignments, after receiving approval from the editor in chief and publisher. * Send out reminders to authors. * As needed, send articles, such as science news, to content reviewers. * Edit the final version of every article before layout to ensure consistency with AiG editorial standards. * Make changes to the proof based on marks from editors, the publisher, and outside proofreaders. * Send PDFs to authors for final approval, and make author changes. * Proofread the initial proof and the final copy of the entire magazine. * Select and edit Readers Respond. * Write initial drafts of letters to readers who contact the magazine about content. * Oversee writing or acquiring subscriber extras (text, audio, and video). * Generate ideas for online extras that will benefit readers. * Research and write some articles, while making other assignments to freelance authors. * Work in concert with the publisher, editor in chief, and the director of internet outreach to continually maintain and enhance the content of the magazine’s web presence, www.AnswersMagazine.com. * Ensure the production of audio recordings for each issue—arrange recording with the A/V team, and arrange posting with the web team. * Communicate with subscribers and potential subscribers through the magazine’s social networking communities, including Facebook. * Proof the digital version of the magazine. * Process essential paperwork, reports, and payment * Mail appropriate author forms to all authors * Coordinate author payment * Enter Answers magazine for possible awards at various conferences, such as the Evangelical Press Association and Folio, after consultation with the editor in chief and the lead designer. * In planning meetings, share the perspective of the magazine’s primary target demographic (Millennial and Gen X women)

**Requirements** * A strong understanding of and support for the core beliefs and messaging of Answers in Genesis. * Exceptional editing and interpersonal communication skills * Exceptional writing skills * Ability to effectively balance multiple projects and strict deadlines * Ability and willingness to carry out editorial mandates of the organization * Creativity to generate new ideas for future issues and articles * Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment * Existing relationships with subject matter experts, writers, and industry leaders a plus Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith. * Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. * Regular attendance at a local Bible-believing church. **Education & Experience** * B.A. in English, journalism, or related field * Editorial experience in publishing a plus * Strong knowledge of science and Bible topics
