Senior Surety Claims Counsel

Founded in 1998 to provide workers’ compensation insurance to small businesses in the United States, the company now operates in three segments around the globe: Small Commercial Business Insurance, Specialty Risk and Extended Warranty, and Specialty Middle-Market Property and Casualty Program Insurance.

The Senior Surety Claims Counsel is directly responsible for the investigation, analysis, and settlement of complex and large sized surety bond claims over a large range of venues throughout the country but with a primary focus on the South and Mid-West.

* Responsible for the investigation, analysis, negotiation and resolution of loss recovery disputes. * Performs legal research and analyzes legal questions in regards to claim investigations and resolutions. * Provides legal assistance and/or counsel to the claims personnel with regard to claims negotiations and settlement resolutions. * Analyzes, reviews, and drafts legal documents including indemnity agreements, bond forms, settlement agreements, promissory notes, assignments, releases, construction contracts, and repayment agreements. * May make court appearances for case management or settlement, status conferences and trials.

* Requires a law degree from a ABA accredited law school * Must have 6-10 years of legal experience, particularly in construction and surety law * Must have prior experience handling surety bond claims * Transactional and litigation experience would be desirable. * Must be detail oriented, organized and possess strong legal, analytical and negotiation skills * Ability to read and comprehend written or oral instructions, correspondence and memos. * Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. * Knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software, project or contact management systems with experience in using Excel, Word, Outlook and other Windows software
