Summary
* The Senior Engineer Track Design is responsible to prepare designs for complex track engineering projects and studies to repair, renew, reconfigure and construct new track, turnouts and roadbed. The Senior Engineer Track Design conducts technical design and constructability reviews of track design submittals by engineering consultants, other railroads and commuter agencies to ensure adherence with Amtrak and industry best practice design standards. The incumbent also provides technical assistance to other departments and consultants and makes engineering recommendations for consultants, division engineers and their staffs. * This incumbent makes field inspections to investigate situations before making an engineering recommendation as well as assisting in topographic and track layout surveying work.
Responsibilities
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:** * Provides technical expertise to other departments and makes critical Engineering decisions for Division Engineers and their staffs. * Makes field inspections to investigate situations before making an Engineering recommendation as well as assisting in topographic and track layout surveying work. * Performs track and civil engineering analyses and calculations. * Creates and designs solutions to track alignment problems that meet or exceed Amtrak standards. * Creates engineering drawings based on field surveys including plotting notes from field surveys and using mapping from other sources. * Reviews design submissions from outside agencies and design consultants and recommends changes to meet Amtrak standards or otherwise improve the designs. * Analyzes track designs and prepares reports of design reviews and field inspections. * • Creates phasing plans for staged construction and operations. * • Assists survey crews in laying out designed solutions to track alignments. * Maintains CAD library of track design standards. * Represents Amtrak’s interests related to track alignments with agencies, municipalities and outside parties. * Establishes safety as an integral and continuous part of all work. Is proactive in improving safe methods in all activities. Works to ensure the safety of employees, passengers, and * the public. * Works with track design consultants. * Maintains industry contacts and active memberships in industry associations to determine industry best practices and their applications at Amtrak.
Ideal Candidate
**WORK EXPERIENCE:** * Extensive railway engineering and track design experience. * Engineer-in-Training license (or the ability to obtain) in at least one state through which the Northeast Corridor traverses. * Must become qualified in RWP, AMT-2 and MW-1000. * Skills in the use of CADD software * Must be able to prepare technical reports and effectively communicate verbally and in writing to management and outside agencies. * Must be in good physical condition and pass a pre-employment physical exam ‘ * Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint) **PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:** * PE License in at least one state through which the N.E. Corridor traversed. * Extensive railway engineering and track design experience. * Working knowledge of Amtrak’s MW1000-Limits and specifications for Track Safety, Maintenance and Construction or other equivalent standards from an operating railway * Engineering Department. * Advanced level skills in the use of MicroStation CADD software. **PREFERRED EDUCATION:** * BS degree in Civil Engineering with focus on Railway Engineering Design or combination of education and railway engineering work experience. * Requisition ID:17810 * Posting Location(s):Pennsylvania * Job Family/Function:Engineering * Relocation Offered:Yes * Education Requirements:Bachelors Degree * Travel Requirements:Up to 25% **Employment Experience Requirements:10 plus years of experience**
