Summary
The Principal Technologist II is an expert/lead technical role. Works on one or more projects of high complexity as the technology subject matter expert and/or technical leader/consultant in multiple disciplines. When involved with a project team, acts in a consultative manner and typically does not provide administrative or management type of support. Works on the most complex tasks and projects, or supports issues that involve the highest degree of risk, impacts enterprise-wide performance and makes use of the individual's expert knowledge within one or more areas of specialty.
Responsibilities
- Researches and analyzes advanced technology trends within area of expertise. - Identifies emerging trends and initiates research projects for team members. - Experience with development and implementation of Application Design patterns and common business components / services that are leveraged by multiple applications. - Provide technical leadership for the design, development, and support of complex mission-critical business applications, including Mobile, eTicketing and web-based systems. - Intense focus on innovation and familiarity and/or experience with leveraging Agile Methods. - Establish a detailed application designs (including design patterns/frameworks), consistent with Amtrak’s Enterprise Architecture; ensure alignment of the developed software with designs; and to work closely with Marketing to define technical requirements, statements of work, select vendors and system solutions. - Strong experience with leveraging configuration management, source code control, and release management in the development of applications. - Has translated design specifications into code, created and assembled components by leveraging existing code repositories; extensive experience with one or more programming languages; and has effectively leveraged common development tools for required language, platform, database, middleware and environment. - Works with technical staff to understand and resolve Tier 3 level technical issues related to applications. - Additional tasks include creation of optimization programs to resolve problems and development of prototypes for proof of concept activities. - Coordinates the assessment of emerging technologies. - Evaluates and recommend new products or tools for the organization. - Oversees cost-benefit and risk analysis and presents options to Sr. Management teams. - Partners with leadership to define and communicate long-term technology strategy and planning for the enterprise. - Assists and/or may lead in the development and analysis of source selection strategies. - Works with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy and architecture. - Provides technical analyses to help define, assess and monitor the technical aspects of the program/project or services. - Designs innovative solutions using new technologies. - Recommends short-term alternatives when appropriate. - Reviews proposed designs at key milestones and approves additional efforts. - Lead efforts to troubleshoot existing information systems or networks to identify errors or deficiencies. - Brainstorms possible solutions and evaluates alternatives against decision criteria. - Leads the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel or service provider personnel. - Guides vendors during the problem resolution process as needed. - Provides technical expertise across business functions. - Identifies opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies. - Represents Amtrak in relevant industry forums. - Position may manage technical personnel/contractors or vendors.
Ideal Candidate
**Work Experience:** - Demonstrated relevant technical experience in a leadership or a Subject Matter Expert capacity. Experience in programming and/or systems analysis. Strong technical experience in developing reliable, high-volume, complex systems. - Technologies Skill Set Requirement : Android, iOS, WP8, Enterprise Mobility Management Tool (MobileIron), Mobile device configurations, JEE, Oracle/SQL, MQ, Web Services, XSLT, JAXB, and JDOM / EJB, DAO, JNDI, and HTTPS, JSP, and HTML / Security Models, JAAS, Role Based Security, and encryption techniques. - Expertise in continuous integration and continuous delivery. - Knowledge of Hybris, Mulesoft or Salesforce will be an advantage. - Relevant Architecture/Engineering Certifications. - ITIL, or equivalent Certification **Other Requirements:** - Knowledge of current and emerging IT products, services, and processes. - Ability to adapt to changing business conditions, evolving goals, strategies and emerging technology. - Must posess working experience utilizing the ITIL Framework for Incident, Change, Problem and Release Management. **Preferred Education:** - Master's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent. **Communication And Interpersonal Skills:** - Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. **Employment Experience Requirements:** - 10 plus years of exp
