Summary
This position is responsible for providing legal support to Corporate Affairs practice group in the Law Department for cases and administrative projects concerning Procurement, Real Estate, Finance, and Marketing Departments
Responsibilities
* Organize and maintain the Law Department’s contracts repository, ensuring all executed agreements are available for attorney reference * Assist attorneys in carrying out legal research, including gathering and analyzing research data, such as contracts, statutes, decisions, legal arguments, codes, patents, and other documents * Assist attorneys in drafting legal documents, including contracts, subpoena responses, and statements * At the direction of the Chief Legal Officer, prepare and file quarterly and annual lobbying reports for various jurisdictions, and maintain registrations for lobbyists * Preparing cases for attorneys by organizing exhibits, finalizing affidavits and legal correspondences, and maintaining documents in paper and electronic filing systems * Assist attorneys in investigating facts and laws of matters, and search pertinent sources to determine causes of action and prepare matters * Other special projects, legal support tasks, and administrative duties as needed
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qualifications** * Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent substantive experience * Two to five years of relevant experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department environment * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Ability to work effectively with internal clients and outside counsel. * Strong attention to detail * Excellent research and analytical skills * Excellent prior job performance * Ability to manage a heavy workload * Ability to organize and analyze large volumes of information and documents * Ability to work under pressure and meet constant deadlines * Ability to work with a variety of personalities in a strong team environment * Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information * Coordinate multiple cases and projects and adapt to changing priorities * Effectively manage and utilize Amtrak’s financial resources **Preferred** * Experience working with railroads or other industrial environments. * Experience working with lobbyists and preparing disclosures. * Experience working in an in-house environment, or within a large law firm. **Work Environment** * Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and case boxes weighing up to 15 pounds. * Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision.
