Responsibilities
The Principal Engineer - working in Amgen's Discovery Technologies organization - will be primarily responsible for the successful implementation of microtiter-plate based experiments in a state-of-the-art uHTS laboratory. - Duties include programming, calibrating, and troubleshooting diverse HTS equipment: robotic arms, liquid dispensers and plate-reading instruments. - The candidate will also work closely in a team environment with biologists, biochemists, information technology/software development staff and engineering support personnel to successfully develop, transfer and execute assays on the uHTS platform and ancillary equipment. - Quantitative analysis and quality control of HTS data will also be significant responsibilities. The incumbent will also train and assist engineers and scientists to use ancillary HTS equipment.
Ideal Candidate
Basic Qualifications - Doctorate degree & 2 years of Engineering experience OR Master's degree & 6 years of Engineering experience OR Bachelor's degree or & 8 years of Engineering experience OR Associate's degree & 10 years of Engineering experience OR High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Engineering experience Preferred Qualifications - B.S. or M.S. in physical sciences; B.S.E. or M.S.E. in chemical-, mechanical-, electrical-, biomedical- or bio- engineering; - 5+ years of experience in 384 & 1536-well microtiter plate HTS methodology and HTS assay development as well as experience in HTS spectroscopy and/or imaging techniques; - experience operating and maintaining HTS robotics (especially Staubli/Stäubli based systems), automated liquid handlers and plate reader instrumentation (for example, Perkin Elmer Envision, Molecular Devices FLIPR, Perkin Elmer Opera/Operetta); - experience with Microsoft Office, Access, Sharepoint & Project software; - experience with Genedata, Mosaic and Spotfire software; SQL, PL/SQL, Pipeline Pilot, and automation software programming skills (for example VAL, PLC-IEC61131, C++ and /or C#); - demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; - excellent communication skills; - demonstrated ability to report relevant results of their work to project teams and management; - demonstrated successful interpersonal relationships with peers and colleagues in other scientific disciplines; and - demonstrated success in performing novel HTS-related research and mentoring junior technical staff.
