Summary
Amgen is searching for a Licensing External Research and Development (R&D) Senior Manager – in our Business Development team. This role will report to the Executive Director, Licensing and will be based either at our campus in Thousand Oaks, CA or South San Francisco, CA.
Responsibilities
* The Senior Manager within the External R&D group of Business Development will be responsible for identifying and evaluating external therapeutic and technology assets for in-licensing, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) or partnership collaborations, in support of Amgen’s overall business development strategy in oncology. * The Senior Manager will identify and evaluate oncology opportunities through external networking, landscape and strategy reviews, and scientific and drug development knowledge. * The Senior Manager will initiate and maintain relationships with external companies and academic leaders, guide and manage technical evaluations with cross-functional teams, provide recommendations as appropriate, and ensure appropriate and efficient decision-making processes are followed. * The Senior Manager will prepare clear summaries and presentations of the opportunities for senior management review. * The Senior Manager may also support of out-licensing activities.
Ideal Candidate
* Doctorate degree in a scientific discipline, and robust working knowledge in oncology and/or immunology * 3+ years of experience in biotech/pharma business development and/or drug development with strong technical R&D experience * Strong scientific, organizational, communication, and project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a record of key accomplishments * Excellent presentation skills * Effective communication skills pertaining to scientific and business development * The ability to foresee and solve problems, and prioritize and meet deadlines * Strong team player * Ability to interface effectively with all-levels of staff across differing functional expertise within the organization, including R&D, Commercial, Legal, Chemistry Manufacturing and Control (CMC) and Finance * Demonstrated ability to create and build relationships with internal and external parties * Professional demeanor with strong decision making skills * The ability to create and build relationships with internal and external parties **Basic Qualifications** * Doctorate degree and 2 years of business development and/or drug development industry experience * Master’s degree and 4 years of business development and/or drug development industry experience * Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of business development and/or drug development industry experience * Associate’s degree and 10 years business development and/or drug development industry experience * High school diploma / GED and 12 years of business development and/or drug development industry experience
