Accountant II

AMERISAFE is a specialty provider of Workers' Comp Insurance focused on small to mid-sized employers in hazardous industries.

The successful individual in this key role will be responsible for:

• Income tax accounting and reporting
• Preparation of general journal transactions as related to accounting for income and franchise taxes
• Reconciliation of tax related general ledger accounts.
• Compilation and reporting of data required for Statutory and GAAP compliance and tax filings.
• Maintain and monitor SOX Compliance for areas of responsibility
• Accurate and timely data entry
• Strong spreadsheet activity and analysis, ability to import and export data, sort and create complex calculations using formulas
• On time payments to various parties
• Trending and other analysis
• Receives and verifies invoices, and ensuring that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures, in addition to having required approval
• Monthly balancing and reconciliation of general ledger accounts assigned
• Updates the fixed assets schedules for assigned companies and reconciles into the GL.
• Assist Accounting staff with the regulatory filings.
• May complete a variety of additional projects or tasks as assigned by the CFO or Senior Accountants as needed.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business or at least two years of Finance/Accounting work experience in the property and casualty insurance industry.
• Thorough working knowledge of applicable personal computing technologies, including MS Excel, MS Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and MS Outlook email.
• Solid understanding of taxation.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent professional communications skills—written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet financial reporting and other project deadlines.
• Highly organized style, with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
• Proven ability to work closely with others in a team-oriented environment.
