Responsibilities
  • Lead design projects from concept generation through implementation.
  • Be a New Product Development team leader. -bBe an expert in Water Delivery Systems, for the Wholesale, Luxury and Retail channels.
  • Understand the consumer, especially in the bathroom and kitchen environment, so that functional aspects can be considered along with aesthetic needs and cost objectives.
  • Ensure that there is a high level of design within all of the details throughout the product.
  • Provide design and technical guidance to the team and other Industrial Designers.
  • Occasionally manage internal and/or external designers
  • Participate in accomplishing the day-to-day activities of the Industrial Design department.

Major Tasks:

  • Work very closely with all new product development departments, including Engineering, Product Marketing,
  • Purchasing, and Manufacturing, in a team atmosphere to achieve new product designs.
  • Participate in new product development activities, including generation of new product concepts.
  • Determine appropriate approaches to concept development by executing/managing product concept drawings, physical modeling, and product presentations.
  • Collaborate with the Consumer Insight Team.
  • Maintain current awareness of consumer competitor product offerings including product design trends in North America and Global markets.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with materials and processes used in the industry and the manufacture of plumbing products.

Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to VP of Design
  • Dotted Line to Program Managers when working on projects.
  • Advises and mentors less experienced Industrial Design personnel.

Organization Relationships:

  • Works alongside Engineering, Product Marketing, Communications, and Manufacturing in a team environment.
  • External Business Relationships:
  • Manage design consultants.
  • Occasional contact with vendors and suppliers.
  • Attends industry trade show and seminars as needed to maintain awareness of competitor products, designs, and overall consumer product design trends.
  • Attends industrial design seminars and courses as necessary to maintain professional skills
Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field of study
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial design, interior design, architecture, furniture, lighting and/or other related field.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating thought process and an understanding of the steps needed to create an experience
  • Excellent form development skills - understanding of 3D form in terms of aesthetic, proportion and various styles Passion for designing appealing, revolutionary products that make an impact on people’s lives
  • Excited by working on difficult problems with a dedicated team of high-energy, high-caliber people.
  • Ability to Manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong aesthetic sense and artistic skill in addition to superior technical competence
  • Must have mastery of relevant 3D and 2D CAD tools – (Rhino, Alias, Solidworks, Pro E, etc – Adobe Creative Suite, Keyshot, Vray, Maxwell, etc). To help create, simulate and render compelling ID and user interaction solutions.
  • Must have the ability to develop and communicate a strong, well-considered understanding of how to combine ID objectives with the objectives of engineering, marketing and human factors disciplines
  • Ability to distill complex concepts and then quickly turn around solutions reflecting a range of simple, elegant, and technically-feasible options
  • Ability to work with engineering teams to bring successful products to market
  • Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20% of the time.
  • Experience designing electro-mechanical systems with significant user interface elements a strong plus. Medical device experience a plus.
