The American Society of Clinical Oncology is a professional organization representing physicians of all oncology subspecialties who care for people with cancer.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be skilled at building relationships with medical reporters, editors, and bloggers; have a track record of securing news coverage through creative pitching and other media outreach strategies; understand the modern media landscape and ways to leverage social media strategies to achieve results; and be a prolific healthcare/science writer with experience in the cancer space. This position will manage day-to-day media relations activities and serve as a front-line contact for reporter inquiries and interview requests. In addition, the Specialist will develop strategies to grow ASCO’s relationships with reporters in the U.S. and abroad, and coordinate media events and editorial briefings. The Specialist will also be responsible for writing news releases, fact sheets, and other press materials about exciting advances in cancer research and care.
Ideal Candidate
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare media relations; cancer-specific experience preferred - PR agency and medical association experience preferred - Excellent writing and oral communications skills (writing samples required) - Collaborative and innovative approach to work - Ability to deliver a large volume of high quality work in a fast-paced, complex environment - Able to develop and sustain effective working relationships externally, as well as across departments internally - Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field
