The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) is a member association representing more than 78,000 osteopathic physicians (DOs). The AOA serves as the primary certifying body for DOs, and is the accrediting agency for all osteopathic medical colleges and health care facilities.
Summary
The AOA seeks a results-oriented Assistant Director of Public Policy to join our Washington, D.C. office in raising the profile of the largest growing segment of physicians in the U.S.– osteopathic physicians. With our Director of Policy Engagement, this position will analyze and strategically advance federal and state legislative and regulatory policies that strengthen the osteopathic medical profession. This position will also provide public policy expertise to AOA staff, members, leadership, and affiliates. In addition, the position will assist with facilitating AOA nominations to governmental committees, advisory panels and task forces.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Public Policy will monitor, research, and analyze public policies and advise internal stakeholders on opportunities to advance the AOA's strategic priorities; research and provide timely information on important, relevant issues to the osteopathic medical profession; develop concise and timely written policy communications for internal and external audiences; comment on relevant regulatory and administrative activities of federal agencies with a strong focus on those within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and attend meetings and maintain strategic relationships with external stakeholders including nonprofit and for-profit health care organizations and coalitions.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor's degree in political science, communications or related discipline is required. An advanced degree is desirable. * Minimum three years' work in public policy on the staff of federal or state legislator and/or relevant experience with a health care association, federal or state health agency, or health policy analysis organization.
