Software Engineer III

American National Insurance Company was founded in 1905 by William L. Moody, Jr. and is headquartered in Galveston, Texas. The Company has multiple subsidiaries, and has operations in Springfield, Missouri; Glenmont, New York; and League City, Texas.

The Software Engineer position is responsible for the writing and testing of software code within our IT Department. The role will involve a blend of maintenance and new COBOL development on a mainframe application.

• Ability to create innovative solutions to existing problems
• Translate user requests into logical computer instructions
• Debug program code
• Represent IT during business meetings
• Create proof of concepts of new technology and gather facts to allow for better technology decisions

• 2-year degree in computer information systems or related field or equivalent work experience
• Proficient in COBOL
• Knowledge of VSAM, JCL, and CICS a plus
• Insurance background a plus, but not required
• Willingness to participate in additional insurance and IT training/testing as required
• Energetic and engaging self-starters possessing strong analytical, communication, organizational and technology skills.
