Summary
The media advocacy intern will assist the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s (ACS CAN) national media advocacy team with executing communications and media relations activities that support ACS CAN’s advocacy work.
Responsibilities
* Research media outlets and reporters * Assist with researching, drafting and copy editing press releases, email pitches, newsletter articles and other internal and external communications materials * Assist with executing events such as press conferences * Assist with content inventory and maintenance of the organization’s intranet community * Provide support to the team’s social and online media efforts * Monitoring online databases for news stories of interest * Assisting with drafting media coverage reports
Ideal Candidate
Candidates must be at least a college sophomore, preferably with a major in communications/public relations, journalism, public relations, political science or a related field. Candidates must also have strong oral, written and computer skills, be a team player, handle multiple projects effectively, and have an interest in public policy and/or health care issues. **All Interns Must meet the following requirements:** * Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college; * Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale); * Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester Note: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation. The following information must be submitted upon application: * Resume * Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the student’s credentials based on the internship’s skill requirements • Recent transcript attesting to their GPA and standing as a full-time student • Unpaid interns must also provide documentation of the participation in a bona-fide college intern program under which their ACS CAN internship either qualifies them to receive course credit OR fulfills a graduation/coursework requirement.
