AASHTO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association representing highway and transportation departments in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. It represents all five transportation modes: air, highways, public transportation, rail, and water. Its primary goal is to foster the development, operation, and maintenance of an integrated national transportation system.
Responsibilities
- The Associate Project Manager provides technical and project management support to the Associate Project Director in the cooperative development of multiple computer software projects and assists in the management of the software products (AASHTOWare®) resulting from these projects. - The incumbent provides support in a number of technical, management and administrative areas including technical oversight of the software development activities, as well as in the support and maintenance of existing software products. - The incumbent also assists in the solicitation and development process for new projects, including the development of requests for proposals, and the review, editing and preparation of various technical documents and marketing literature related to joint development activities, and other duties as assigned. - The Associate Project Manager takes direction from the Associate Project Director but at times may take direction from the Project Director. - In response to frequent external inquiries, the incumbent assists the Associate Project Director in responding to requests for information regarding AASHTO's software development activities and licensing procedures, monitoring the collection and disbursement of funds relating to software development and licensing activities, and preparing periodic reports on license fee collection and project expenses. - The incumbent also participates in the long-range planning, budget development, and marketing of AASHTOWare products. - The Associate Project Manager may attend task force and other related committee meetings, assists in the preparation of meeting agendas as well as handling meeting logistics; disseminates informational material to committee members; provides other assistance as required; and must be able to travel 30–60 days per year.
Ideal Candidate
- The successful candidate should have a minimum of three years related professional level experience in a closely related field. Seven or more years’ of experience is preferred. - Previous experience in the development of computer software projects is highly desirable. - A bachelor’s degree, preferably in civil engineering or computer sciences is required. - Considerable knowledge of the technical aspects of the software development lifecycle and methodologies, and the issues related to software development project management is necessary. - Excellent written and oral skills are required. - Technical skills in the areas of software engineering are desirable. - The ability to effectively communicate and to work cooperatively with contractors, staff, and task force members is required. - The incumbent must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
