Responsibilities
* The Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) participates as a surgical team member by using the RN assessments * They implement the plan and evaluate the surgical procedure needs during the patient’s surgical intervention * The ability to plan, scrub, and organize surgical procedure need is demonstrated * Preference cards are used and updated to prepare for current and future cases * Age appropriate needs are assessed and selections made * Preparations for procedure are made in a timely manner * All appropriate supplies for procedure are obtained * Proper policies and procedures relating to perioperative care of patients are followed * Policies and procedures are implemented related to perioperative, prep and intervention as observed by nurse manager and feedback from physician * Aseptic technique standards of practice, policies and procedures are followed * Maintains and assures correct counts * An orderly room environment in accordance with department standardization is maintained * Specimens are handled per policy/procedure * Safety measures for all patients as well as self and coworkers are implemented including universal precautions * Personal protection eyewear is used according to policy & procedure * Documentation of incidents is completed * Defective equipment is reported/returned * Appropriate product information is saved and reported according to the Safe Medical device Act * Handles medications for surgical/procedure set up, stocking and transport to secure locations * Labels all solutions according to policy * Competencies of required skills and knowledge are maintained * Specialty assignments in accordance with unit objectives are carried out * Demonstrate a commitment to a healthy work environment * Demonstrate awareness of information relating to health and safety at work and perform safely at all time * Promote and embrace diversity in the workplace * Demonstrate an awareness of and adheres to compliance regulations
Ideal Candidate
* High school graduate * Completion of Surgical Technologist Program or LPN accredited School of Nursing * CST Certification * New graduates will be considered, pending successful CST certification * Cardiovascular experience preferred **Skills** * Strong clinical knowledge base in related area * The ability to establish effective relationships with health care team members, managers and leaders * Skillful in teaching others **Licensure/Certifications** * Licensure in the State of Minnesota (LPN only) with 2 years experience in a multi- specialty or * Current CST certification (CST only) * CPR certification
