Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to projects aimed at the identification of novel therapeutic strategies for retinal diseases. S/he will be required to conceive, design and implement a range of biochemical and cell-based studies as well as contribute to the development of pre-clinical in vivo pharmacology models to characterize potential therapeutic targets and evaluate drug candidates. Experience in the fields of ophthalmology, vision research or in drug development an asset. The successful candidate will collaborate extensively with other Research Scientists and Associates, while taking personal responsibility for success of assigned tasks and projects. The successful candidate should be a highly motivated, hands-on experimentalist who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Emphasis is on the ability to successfully perform experiments with minimal supervision, demonstrate leadership skills and interact in a team environment. The Scientist – Retina will be responsible for performing pharmacologic al studies using in vitro models, translational/pharmacological studies in in vivo models, data analysis and interpretation, and scientific presentations/collaborations and personal development.
Ideal Candidate
A Ph.D. in biology or equivalent with 2+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience is required. Hands-on industry experience in the retina and eye area is highly preferred and not required. Experience with in vitro and cell-based functional assays required. Biochemistry and molecular biology experience required. Experience with small animal handling desired. Experience in the fields of ophthalmology, vision research or in drug development desired. The successful candidate must work well in a team environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Ability to multitask effectively and be adaptable and flexible to meet changing priorities required. This position is located in Irvine, CA and may require minimal travel
