Application and Market Engineer Industrial Plates

This position is responsible for leading the business development activities related to Alcoa’s products for the industrial plates market, in particular for mold and tooling applications. The incumbent will work closely with sales and operations to drive market adoption, provide technical assistance and support to customers and ensure the profitable growth of the products under his responsibility. The incumbent will apply technical expertise to assist users in building and using aluminum molds, to develop/propagate best practices in the field, to resolve technical issues, and to build a knowledge base related to aluminum molds. The Product Manager will apply his/her market knowledge to help identify sales opportunities for mold block. In order to meet these objectives, the candidate will need to work with multiple internal stakeholders, including the market development team, engineering, manufacturing, the Alcoa Technical Center, and other Alcoa business units. This position will report to the Business Development Manager – Industrial Products .

* Support the refinement and execution of the growth strategy for Industrial Plates, in alignment with the medium and long-term business growth objectives. * Lead the effort to identify and cultivate new end user customers within the key global regions. * Identify and develop supply strategies for end user customers (direct or distribution). If distribution, assist in finding appropriate partners for Alcoa. * Drive and support the R&D and New Product Development activities as required to identify and develop new opportunities. * Manage field service activities, including product trials, maintenance, troubleshooting, etc. * Support sales and marketing efforts at customers * Provide internal guidance and expertise about Plate applications e.g. injection molds and plastics processing * Conduct technical training for internal and external personnel

* Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (mechanical, plastics, industrial) or equivalent * Minimum of 5 years of experience in the plastics processing industry (e.g. mold shop or tool builder) * 2+ years experience with resins, injection mold presses, and plastics processing. Prefer some knowledge of tool design * Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time. Some international travel required * Skills and Abilities: * Strong communication and organizational skills * Field experience with demonstrated ability to solve problems and interact with customers * Experience with consumer goods OE’s, custom molders, or Automotive Tier 1 suppliers is a plus * Technical expert and ideally will have gained a broader business perspective through various assignments in manufacturing and product development. * Advanced experience with aluminum is preferred. * Additional advanced degrees are a plus.
