About Alameda County Information Technology Department

Alameda County is one of the largest counties in Northern California, with 9,000 employees and serving a population of over 1.4 million people in the East Bay.

Responsibilities
  • Directs, coordinates and supervises the activities and projects of the IT Operations teams.
  • Managing multiple shifts (24/7) of Operations and support staff for the Countywide IT department.
  • Ensures maximum uptime of county systems and data centers.
  • Coordination with the County’s General Services and other agencies.
  • Provides technical and management support to the Deputy Director.
Ideal Candidate

Requirements:

  • 6 years of recent increasingly responsible experience in computer operations with at least 4 years supervising computer operators and 2 years supervising an entire 24/7 operation of a large multi-vendor data center with an enterprise class LAN/WAN network.
  • Excellent project management, communication, organizational and documentation skills.
  • The ability to plan, organize, manage and evaluate staff and communicate group activities effectively to the Deputy Director and other executive staff.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a professional team of 24/7 shift supervisors, operations staff and help desk staff.
  • Oversee problem and incident management and process, methodology, implementation and documentation.
  • Oversee change management/control/release and process, methodology, implementation and documentation.
  • External vendor and internal client management skills required.
  • Develop and implement multi-year strategic plans, SLAs, SLOs.

Deep understanding of:

  • Infrastructure (Server/Network/Telephony/Radio) operations and escalation procedures
  • Environmental systems: HVAC, electrical/power/UPS, fire suppression/safety, physical access control systems
  • Structured cabling/wiring/cages/racking
  • IT Service Management systems (HEAT, BMC, ServiceNow)
  • Infrastructure monitoring and alerting tools
  • Tools: HP Openview, SiteScope, HEAT (other ITSM apps), Visio

Working Knowledge of:

  • Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools (Raritan, Schneider, Emerson)
  • SANs, servers (Windows and AIX), storage devices
  • Mainframe (IBM)
  • Network routers, switches, circuits
  • Land Mobile Radio/microwave systems
  • Telephony, unified messaging, connectivity/circuits
  • Compliance/auditing (SOX, HIPPA, CJIS, PCI, ITIL) skills

Additional Notes on Compensation

County Pension Plan, 11 paid holidays per year, initial 10 vacation days/yr (increases over time), additional starting grant of 7 management level paid vacation days, 4 floating holidays, and 13 sick days.
