Software Engineer

This position offers the chance to work with one of the foremost network operations teams in the industry by developing software, automation, and alerting for Akamai’s deployed networks. These networks comprise hundreds of thousands of servers around the world, requiring efficiency and consistency to maintain. The Alert Cleanup team works to make the alerting as specific and effective as possible, while also enabling users to respond quickly and easily. Direct experience working in and with a Network Operations Center is a plus for this position.

• Actively analyze Akamai systems alerting and propose changes
• Write software and automation that make Akamai’s NOCC more effective
• Identify and address systemic issues in the NOCC in coordination with other teams at Akamai
• Report on and create reporting tools for all aspects of alert volume, time spent working alerts, and associated impact
• Provide training as required on alert and procedural topics

Required Education and Experience

BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience

Required Skills

• 2 years of experience working extensively with databases and queries
• 2 years of experience programming in Perl or Python
• 2 years of experience with UNIX system administration
• 2 years of experience with front end design in JS, HTML, or CSS
• 1 year of experience with project engineering

Desired Skills

• Proficiency with databases, including the ability to: dump tables, look at sizes (in numbers of rows) of tables, and explain and analyze queries
• Proven experience designing and administering a monitoring and reporting solution in a high availability environment.
• 3 years of experience with implementation and support of large, complex, IP-based networks
• 3 years of experience with scripting
