Summary
Airbnb is growing rapidly and we are on the lookout for high energy employees for building and expanding the Operations team. As an IT Operations Engineer at Airbnb, you will be working with the global ITX team solving complex, time sensitive issues in our production environment. You will be the conduit between many business and technology facing teams and help shape and improve the operability of our systems and services. Your passion for understanding, reverse engineering and analyzing technical systems will directly impact how effectively IT services operate.
Responsibilities
* Take personal responsibility for the quality, reliability and availability of global IT infrastructure. * Maintain day-to-day operations and documentation of global IT production infrastructure, including secure local and wide area networks and all other IT services 24/7. * Participate in rotating on-call incident response after normal business work hours and on the weekends * Develop and improve instrumentation for monitoring the health and availability of services. * Proactively monitor systems, network and applications and provide input to improve the stability, security, efficiency and scalability of systems * Handle all IT systems, network and application level 2 escalations * Improve operational efficiencies via scripting, bots and integrations * Work with IT engineering teams to ensure smooth operation of all IT services * Work with vendors to resolve issues as needed
Ideal Candidate
To apply, you must have proven industry experience greater than 3 years. Applicants who are considered mid to senior level in experience are desired. **Requirements** * Must have industry experience * In-depth experience deploying and maintaining monitoring tools (Nagios, SumoLogic etc) * Experience developing runbooks, procedures and ability to complete knowledge transfer to both peers within the Operations team and L1 teams * Able to analyse problems and conduct effective fault diagnosis and system recovery * Understanding of the following technologies: IP Protocols (ICMP, UDP, TCP); IP filtering and firewalling; Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS); Quality of Service; MPLS; Ethernet. * Familiar working in a data centre environments * Proficiency with Linux environments * Familiar with LDAP, Active Directory, and SSO implementations * Experience with using commercial cloud systems such as Amazon EC2 * CCNA certified or equivalent level of knowledge * Must have strong scripting skills to support infrastructure and operations automation such as bash, python, ruby or powershell * A strong ownership mentality and a track record of reliability, taking responsibility for problems and pushing through to resolution **Education** Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or EE, or relevant industry experience is required. The candidate must be knowledgeable in the use of network management tools (Cisco CCNA certification preferred).
